For first-time readers, the repetition of events, similar phrases, and even small differences between the texts may seem strange. However, this diversity is not an editorial error nor the result of a lack of organization. It is, in fact, one of the greatest strengths of the biblical text.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John were not written to compete with each other or to correct earlier versions. Each was produced in a specific context, for different audiences, with distinct objectives. Together, they offer a more complete, profound, and balanced view of the life, teachings, and meaning of Jesus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What does the word &quot;Gospel&quot; mean?\u201c<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The word &quot;Gospel&quot; comes from Greek. <em>euangelion<\/em>, The Gospel, which means &quot;good news,&quot; was used in the ancient world to announce victories, political changes, or events of great impact. In the Christian context, the Gospel refers to the good news about Jesus: his life, his message, and the impact of his presence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This already indicates that the Gospels are not modern biographies in the technical sense. Luke writes in a more organized way, with historical concern and special attention to marginalized and foreign groups. John, in turn, follows a more reflective and theological approach.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This diversity exists because each author wrote for a specific audience. The central message is the same, but the focus changes according to the needs and culture of the reader.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Differences do not mean contradictions.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A common mistake is confusing difference of perspective with contradiction. When four people witness the same event, it&#039;s natural that each will highlight different aspects. One might focus on the dialogue, another on the environment, another on people&#039;s reactions. None of them are lying; they are simply observing from different angles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Gospels function in this way. They don&#039;t cancel each other out, but complement each other. The differences reveal authenticity, not inconsistency. If they were identical, they would raise suspicions of forced copying.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Why wasn&#039;t just one Gospel chosen?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If the intention had been to create a single, uniform account, it would have been enough to select one Gospel and discard the others. The fact that this did not happen shows that the early Christian communities valued the plurality of testimonies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Each Gospel addressed a real need. Removing one of them would mean losing an important layer of understanding about Jesus. The preservation of all four indicates that the message was greater than a single point of view.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Synoptic Gospels and the Gospel of John<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Matthew, Mark, and Luke are called the Synoptic Gospels because they share a similar narrative structure. Each text illuminates a different aspect, creating a more complete understanding of the whole.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This multiplicity of perspectives helps the reader avoid simplistic or reductionist interpretations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Conclusion<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The existence of four Gospels is not redundant, but a richness. They do not compete with each other, nor do they try to correct each other. They function as different voices narrating the same good news from complementary angles.
